DAY 3 - Pray for your Family and Friends
Pastor Sanford McQueen

Hello and thank you for joining us for this season of prayer. Today we are going to be talking about the importance of praying for our family and friends. We are going to begin by taking a broader step out and talking about this or getting a picture about this from looking at the nation of Israel. In Joshua 24, the Bible says that Joshua called the elders and leaders of the tribes together and they presented themselves in the presence of the Lord. And while they were there, God began to speak through Joshua and He reminded them of what their relationship had been like. He had been their God who delivered them, who had set them free from bondage. He also brought them into a land, fortified them and fought through them, and even for them, and drove out the occupants of the land so His children could live there. And so, it is important that we understand that after a while they started saying to themselves, “Hey you know what? You are absolutely right, Joshua. We see it. We need to put away the gods of our fathers and what we need to do is give God worship. Our worship we owe to the God of the universe and what we are going to do is we are going to praise Him. We are going to make that decision to do that.” Well, we also understand from the book of Ephesians chapter 6 that God began to do the same kind of thing. He spoke to the people. He spoke to the children but in that particular book, He is using parents to do the same. And isn’t it true that parents do much of the same thing that God does? They protect the children from their enemies. They feed them. They give them a place to stay and watch over them and protect them. And so God uses parents. Parents are the representative of God in the household. And the Scripture says – God says through His Word, “Children obey your parents, in the Lord.” He says, “This is right.” And so, what we want to say today is it is important to pray for our family and friends. We know that nations are made of basically families and friends. And even the basic unit, the family itself, eventually makes up a nation. So pray for your neighbor, we could even say, but specifically those who are closest to you. Don’t forget to pray for them knowing that God will fight their battles. God will be the One who will bring them through every situation. So pray for your family and friends. God bless you.
