Day 24 - Pray That You Will Fulfill Your Purpose
Pastor Lee Ferguson
WORD OF FAITH, SOUTHFIELD MI
This is day 24 of our 30 days of prayer. My name is Pastor Lee Ferguson and we are going to be speaking about praying that you fulfill your purpose. Turn your Bibles to Colossians 4, verse 12, and it reads, “Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.” I have found that there are many people living their lives without a sense of purpose and a sense of direction. Many people have fallen into this trap where they feel that their 9 to 5 job is all they have in life or they are called in a lifestyle and that’s all they feel their purpose is. But I am here to tell you that the purpose is found in the will of God and once you have found that purpose, you will find that your life has a meaning and direction.
Many people fall into depression and even sometimes commit suicide because they don’t have that sense of purpose or that sense of direction. When you find that purpose for your life, you will find that it is like a firm foundation that you can stand upon. So if we go to Ephesians chapter 1, verse 18, and it says, “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.” Your eyes being open and your understanding being open comes from the daily application of God’s Word and spending time in God’s presence - pray unto the Father and He will reveal to you what the purpose of your life should be.
When you spend time in God’s Word and spend time in prayer, God will speak to your heart and give you direction and guidance as to what He wants you to do with your life. There are many people that don’t have that sense of direction because they didn’t take the necessary time to find out what God is saying about them through the application of the Word and through the application of prayer. Every person has been born with a purpose. Every person has abilities. Every person has gifts that come directly from God. But the only way you are going to find out what that purpose is is if you spend time with the Father and also be willing to obey His voice and He will give you that sense of direction and that sense of clarity and that sense of ‘This is what I want you to do,’ and if you are willing to obey, your life will be fulfilled and you will find that purpose being revealed in your life.
Second Timothy chapter 4, verse 7 and 8, it reads, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” This is the Apostle Paul and I love the Apostle Paul because before his conversion his name was Saul and he was the one going around persecuting and murdering Christians. But on the Damascus Road, he had an encounter - direct encounter with God and his name was then removed from Saul, who was the persecutor of the Christians, to Paul the Apostle who we celebrate to this very day who was the chief apostle of all time. He said, “I have finished my race. I fought a good fight.” He was a man that understood his purpose. He was a man that had the revelation given to him directly by God and he had that purpose in front of him the whole time. And he had completed his mission.
Now, what does that say to me or say to you? When you know what the purpose of God is for your life, nothing that comes in your way - nothing that comes in your life - being it persecution or people talking about or attacking you, should deter you from the purpose of God in your life. When you know what the purpose is and what you are called to do, no matter what the enemy may try to do - no matter what people may try and say about you or attack you - will stop the purpose of God in your life. So I want to encourage you today to spend the time in God’s Word. Spend the time in prayer and He will reveal the purpose of God for your life. Amen.
